When asthma meets flu they form a deadly combination together. They can leave you breathless and choked, making your life miserable.

Asthma is a respiratory condition that affects your airways. It makes your airways inflamed which makes it harder to breathe. It affects people of all ages but usually starts developing in childhood. Conversely, flu is a viral infection that lasts for about a week. Infection and inflammation caused by the flu can aggravate asthma symptoms in patients. However, Ayurvedic treatment for asthma is the best approach to managing these symptoms.

    SYMPTOMS

    • A persistent cough
    • The air passage gets inflamed and congested
    • Shortness of breath
    • Chest tightness
    • Wheezing
    • Coughing.
    • A persistent high fever
    • Increased mucus production

The mucus production is increased manifold which causes phlegm build up in the body. It results in the accumulation of toxins which makes the body a breeding ground for ailments and diseases. The body is strained from both conditions which increases levels of fatigue. Coughing and congestion can disturb sleep which further intensifies fatigue.

Asthma weakens the immune system and makes the body vulnerable to viral infections. It is one of the leading causes of asthma. Asthma causes heightened sensitivity levels, especially in the respiratory region increasing the chances of an individual catching flu. Inflammation caused by asthma and flu worsens the respiratory distress. Asthma weakens the lungs leading to severe breathing difficulties during viral infections. Exposure to allergens and irritants makes asthma patients more prone to infections like flu. So it is better to exercise caution.

We all know prevention is better than cure. So you can use some simple asthma home remedies. Patients are advised to take utmost care of their hygiene. You must wash your hands frequently, especially after being in public places to minimize the spreading of germs. You must avoid being in crowded places and use a mask when traveling or in public gatherings. A healthy lifestyle and diet packed with nutrients will help boost your immunity and increase your disease-fighting ability.

As per Ayurveda, asthma and flu are the result of an imbalance in the doshas of the body i.e. Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.  Asthma is caused by an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas. Vata dosha imbalance causes an irritated air passage, coughing, and shortness of breath. An aggravated Kapha dosha on the other hand leads to excessive mucus production and blockage in the respiratory passage. Flu can further aggravate the imbalance in the doshas and make it difficult for the body to cope with both of the diseases.

But don’t lose hope! Ayurvedic treatment for asthma is the best way out. There are various ayurvedic remedies for asthma that are quite effective in reducing the symptoms and rejuvenating your health.

Diet: Consuming a balanced diet packed with nutrients will help in faster recovery by fulfilling the nutrient deficiency of the body. It is advised to have light and warm foods instead of heavy, oily, and spicy foods which can worsen the inflammation and congestion. Adding foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds to your diet will help you boost your immunity and fight off the virus.

Lifestyle: Include yoga and Pranaya in your daily routine. They will help in healthy movement of fluids and the removal of toxins from the body. Also, make sure to take adequate amounts of rest, the body’s natural healing mechanism will kick start and ease the symptoms of both flu and asthma.

Herbs:  Herbs like Ginger, Turmeric, Tulsi, and Neem with Honey are rich in anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce the swelling and ease the symptoms.

Staying hydrated and drinking herbal teas can help you get rid of that excessive mucus that chokes your nasal passage.

Ayurvedic remedies can help you in the treatment of asthma and flu. However, it is best advised to visit a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized treatment regimen. One of the best institutes for Ayurvedic treatment of Asthma is Dr. Sharda Ayurveda.
